Mary Joyce D’Aurizio, the daughter of a dairy farmer, learned at an early age to respect the earth and preserve its resources for
the future. Her parents also stressed the importance of the arts as she studied piano and flute. The oldest of four children Mary
Joyce shocked her parents when she announced that she was going to be an English teacher instead of pursuing a career in science or
math. Teaching secondary English allowed Mary Joyce to instill in her students the love of learning, the opening of the universe through
literature, and encouraging the Socratic belief of examining one’s life.
In her 15th year of teaching Mary Joyce was encouraged by
the school's superintendent to pursue her certification in school district administration. She thrived under the graduate study of
leadership and management, finance, law, and all areas that a superintendent must understand in order to lead the complexities of
an educational campus. Her finance professor convinced her also to pursue an MBA as a noteworthy credential to her resume.
Mary Joyce
has worked as an accountant, credit analyst, and manager. She also has much experience in negotiations, contracts, and organizational
leadership. She is currently president of the Rochester Yacht Club Women’s Association, secretary of the Irondequoit Sister Cities
Committee, storyteller for Irondequoit’s 4th of July celebration, and secretary of the Irondequoit Republican Committee. The Irondequoit
Farmers’ Market and Planting Irondequoit Pride are two of her favorite volunteer groups. She has worked on many service and community
projects for Kiwanis International. Mary Joyce also volunteers for the American Legion Post #134 and is a member of the Italian American
Civic Club and Irondequoit Theatre Guild. She has been past president of the American Association of University Women and past District
Commander of United States Sail and Power Squadrons. She recently co-authored the new public safe boating course. Mary Joyce is proud
to be a Red Cross blood and apheresis donor.
Mary Joyce was a delegate to the United Nations Conference on Women and was a named recipient
for a Research and Projects Endowment for AAUW. She was a guest of NASA at the memorial dedication to Astronaut Judith Resnik at the
Johnson Space Center in Houston. Mary Joyce was recognized as Distinguished College Alumnae and a National Outstanding Young Woman
of the Year.
Mary Joyce is married to Franklin D’Aurizio with whom together they serve the community. They attend Christ the King Church.
